Take a bow "Daddy" Payne and many congratulations. Becoming a new parent and endless sleepiness nights has obviously inspired him. Whilst I would feel pretty confident in suggesting that his match figures of 11 for 87 is a career best, the match report on our Official Site makes no mention of this significant achievement (if it was mentioned on the Sky commentary, then I must of missed it). What a venue to showcase your talents.
From the coverage it certainly did not seem an easy/comfortable wicket to bat on. Perhaps a good time to have been playing Middlesex, as their batting continues to misfire and a classic case of a team presently with limited self confidence.
Notwithstanding the famed Lord's exceptional drainage powers, it was quite bizarre and unexpected to be playing cricket yesterday, when the rest of the country was rained off.
So after 5 matches, we have yet to bat first. Chris Dent has won the toss on 4 out of the 5 occasions......inserted the opposition on each occasion and victorious all 4 times. Interesting to reflect back to the Leics match, when I read a comment where someone criticised his captaincy for inserting the opposition. ("Win the toss and always bat first" was the basic mantra). Probably just confirms that not everyone is suited to following and understanding the intricacies of cricket!
Certainly good to have a relaxing day today and avoid the previous sequence of anxiety filled Sunday afternoons.
Next up Somerset a week on Thursday (20th May).
