So, Batty was brought in last season as a wicketkeeper who could open the innings. The club kept faith with him during a dismal first season where he averaged just 16 while others like Kadeer Ali were left out in the cold. This season he has dropped down the order and is showing no signs of improvement. After getting a pair batting at 6 against Northants in the last game I see he is down at number 8 for the current game at Leicester. While I hope he proves me wrong and goes on to make a load of runs, I can't help feeling at the present time we'd have been better off keeping one of the Steves - Adshead or Snell - who could both get useful runs batting lower down the order. With hindsight was it a mistake getting someone of his age in on a 3 year contract and having to release younger wicketkeepers who would probably have been doing a better job?

Very good points, poor with the bat I would dread to watch him open, a distinctly average wicket keeper who is indeed getting on a bit. As mind boggling as the contract offering of Banerjee. Some dead wood in that team, one or two more promising players blended in with some more promising youth and we could be a real force to contend with! Would have kept Snell personally...

Interesting to see that now Dent is back Coughtrie is opening and keeping wicket and Batty has been left out. Good move?

Certainly a more positive mood, his batting sadly has let him down on far too many occasions. Good to see he has been found out and dropped, an average wicket keeper at best besides! How much will rain affect todays play?
