Pre-match, I was annoyed to hear some rather dismissive comments regarding our opponents......"It's only Leicestershire, provided the weather holds up, surely a straightforward task to ensure that we get maximum points".
I have always hated cricket snobbery, where some supporters of the so called "elite" counties (test match grounds in particular), look down and snear at the poor standards of the smaller counties. We have spent many years on the receiving end of this, so let's stay grounded, avoid any short term arrogance, and be respectful to all our opponents. Certainly very encouraging, that around the country this season, there have already been a number of really competitive performances against the "big boys".
Anyway, despite the euphoria from yesterday, the truth is that Leicestershire largely outplayed us for the majority of the match. Even more impressive considering that they were one main bowler down after the injury to Klein.
Seemed absolutely certain that we were merely playing out yesterday afternoon for the safety of a draw. Quite amazing how we suddenly picked up momentum and secured a most unlikely victory.
One thing seems fairly obvious. Harvey has a different approach to selection policy, in comparison to Dawson. Cockbain is an obvious case in point...previously disregarded for red ball cricket. Some years back, I did argue on here that his technique was not suited to batting at Number 3, and would potentially have more success lower in the order when facing an older ball.
In conclusion to yesterday's events, many congratulations to Glos. But considerable plaudits and well played to Leicestershire.
