Somewhat surprised that this forum is still limping along, given the dismal lack of interest
Anyway, rather felt compelled to comment on the recent epic Festival. Sunshine, club tents, marquees and wonderful setting all adding up to a proper unique Festival atmosphere. Simply love the ambience, with such an eclectic mix of attendees, ranging from the cricket connoisseur to the once a year visitor. Impossible to walk around without bumping into people that you see there every year.
Some adsorbing 4 day cricket, with really tense and thrilling finishes. Very well attended, wish the exact attendances each day were published. Quite brilliant crowd for the first day (Sunday) of the Worcs match. If you ignorantly believe the 'one man and his dog' jibe about County Cricket, then please come for a day out at Cheltenham.
Shame that the weather for the Glamorgan T20 match potentially robbed us of 4 wins out of 4. Some real battling performances, particularly without a real strike bowler. Ryan Higgins continues to get many well deserved plaudits. However, a number of players chipped in with important contributions, exemplified by Tom Smith with his unlikely but remarkable batting exploits.
A few weeks back, who could have forecast seeing us joint second in Div 2. Certainly has exceeded my personal expectations and achieved without any significant overseas contribution. With only Lancs as presently the only stand out team in the Division, let's hope for an exciting end to the season.
Once again top marks for the Cheltenham groundsman. When played on such wickets, 4 day cricket remains alive and well.
For me Cheltenham is the highlight of the year. Not sure that everyone fully appreciates just how damn lucky we are.
LONG LIVE THE FESTIVAL.
