Somewhat belatedly, the fixture list for next season seems a real mixed bag.
Pretty sure that the lack of weekend cricket will once again be viewed with dismay by members who have a normal 9 - 5 working pattern. Is this why the home Glamorgan home fixture was brought forward to start on a Sunday, in order to appease a number of justifiably disgruntled members? Three other counties have also similarly brought forward fixtures, so the ECB seem to have made a dismal effort with their original fixture list version.
When the fixtures were originally announced, three venues were still to be confirmed....home CC against Lancs, away CC against Glamorgan and away T20 against Middlesex. Subsequently confirmed that we are playing Glam at Newport. Middlesex have recently announced that the T20 match will be played at their Radlett out ground (not seen anything on our website!).
So I wonder where we will be playing Lancs (or have I already missed something?). Did hear it suggested that we might be playing at Clifton College. Does anyone know?
Anyone wanting to treat themselves to an away day next season? If you have never been, then I would highly recommend the beautiful Arundel ground, despite it being somewhat of a trek. Of the other options Spytty Park, Newport most probably has the most obvious attraction of being a new ground and convenient to get to. Shame that we missed out on playing a 4 dayer at Lord's.
With the "Horrible" Hundred on the horizon for 2020, I cannot begin to envisage what the future fixture list will look like. Suffice to say, I think we should all try to enjoy the Cheltenhan Festival next season, before the ECB manage to effectively totally ruin it.
Given the present weather, it does help to dream ahead to next season.
