A plethora of extension contracts have emmanated from GCCC in recent days; oft preceded by spoilers! Presumably trying to make rather a lot out of very little. I guess they have to come up with something to justify their time and keep GCCC in the public eye! However, much as I have apporved of most of the extensions I did wonder what the posters thoughts were regarding Bracey. I haven't seen him achieve too much personally so intrigued on this one. Also much as I admire Capn Klinger as a person and his influence on our cricketeers, is bringing him back next season, at cost, sensible?

I have to agree about the twitter posts saying 'announcement coming at' then for the announcement to be a contact extension for an existing player or a first contract for an academy player. We are all awaiting the big announcement of who the new bowlers are going to be. I think you are being harsh on Bracey, if as stated in the announcement, he is our second highest championship run maker for the season. Re Klinger, I was surprised about the announcement as I thought his contract already covered the 2019 season. I guess the difference was the addition of a coaching role. I trust you have seen the long and informative letter issued by the Chairman today: www.gloscricket.co.uk/news/letter-from-gccc-chairman-roger-cooke/

Regarding Roger Cooke's letter, I did find myself nodding in agreement to a number of the points made. Selecting a few examples:
YOUNGSTERS: I share his delight in seeing the emergence of local, Glos developed talent. We do need to fully support and encourage the young players - the Coach will have the difficult task of nurturing them carefully and knowing when they need to be temporarily taken out of the firing line. (Think that I am most probably at the other end of the spectrum to the OP in respect of 'Bobby' Bracey).
BRISTOL PITCHES: Fully endorse his thoughts on the pitches. Certainly, I have never intended to criticise our hardworking grounds team. They must be very frustrated trying to prepare a decent track for 4 day cricket, given that the natural local conditions work against them. Intrigued as to what the solution might be.....we don't have the bowling ammunition to turn it into a 'bunsen' track.
COMMUNICATION: Congratulations to Roger, who has managed in his letter to convey more information on our Second Eleven and Academy than our official website has achieved during the whole of 2018. We desperately need a decent, durable fast bowler to emerge from the academy.
CHELTENHAM: The 'Jewel in the crown' sums it up perfectly.
However, (you have probably been awaiting for my BUT), there are some aspects covered that I really struggle with.
TOP 8 TEAM: The claim of aiming 'to be a top 8 team across all formats' is hard for me to accept. Actions need to match up with words and this claim is far removed from reality. Pretty sad regarding the resigned acceptance of many as to our status in county cricket.......totally bored with hearing the all so regular comment from realist members..."We will never see us become a Div1 team".
FINANCE: Our business model seems overly reliant on one off events e.g Women's World Cup (2017), Men's World Cup (2019). These should be the cream on the top of a sound financial cake, not an absolutely essential incredient to financial solvency. Despite a sell out international T20 against India, glorious weather and a very well attended Festival, we have a gloomy financial outlook for this year. (Also, I was under the impression that counties still received additional ECB payments for playing English qualified Under 25s). Back in the day, they tried hard selling us the prospect that staging international cricket was the magical route to financial dreamland. Worrying to me, the costs of staging such events (temp seating, stewarding, extra facilities) is all esculating at an alarming rate.
Final thought: We have the prospect of significantly better finance for next season, plus 3 promotion places available as a one off in order to create a 10 team Div 1 (seems to be a done deal from what I read elsewhere). Accordingly, should we not really go for it next season in order to really compete for promotion. Interesting to see that Dan Worrall is back as our overseas for 2019 (presumably for the whole season). Nothing more than a decent signing. Whilst it would be relatively easy to pick up a couple of additional squad members, we are in desperate need of a real match winning strike bowler. Can only think that we will need to be forced down the potential Kolpak route (if this still exists post Brexit ?).
