Pre-match, I was happy to achieve a draw, so rather surprising to now reflect on feelings of mixed emotions. Sad to say, the 4th day's play was not a good advert for County Cricket. Overall, somewhat hard to endure with poor entertainment value, but I fully understand some cricket connoisseurs admiring the end result of 4 days of attritional cricket, together with certain individual performances. With Middlesex absolutely desperate for the points, I struggled to understand our tactics on the last afternoon. Surely, something like 280 off 60 odd overs might have been enticing to them (and been to our distinct advantage). Perhaps on reflection, Middlesex regret electing to not having a toss. If they had batted first they might well have been expected to be in control of any eventual last day declaration. Realistically, a low and slow 4th day Bristol track most probably dictated the outcome once again. Hard to mount a quick run chase on this surface. Equally hard to take wickets if you bat properly. Oh well, I suppose we have gone from one extreme to another. Last season Captain Mustard would surely have executed some reckless declaration agreement. Meanwhile, down the road, our Somerset neighbours are continuing their policy of trialling 2 day County Cricket

A thoroughly enjoyable game that was terrific for three and a half days.
What a shame it ended somewhat disappointingly.
We could have declared an hour earlier. 300 runs in 40 overs at 7.5 an over was over cautious. We never seem to get our declarations right.
