Well, if this was "league" cricket we would be relegated and rightly so. Current form is truly dispiriting and does not bode well for Saturday. I trust the "Committee" are having a serious re-think on Coaching, personnel, and how they can conceivably attract new and existing yearly and 'seasonal' members. Life members are even having second thoughts whether to turn up or not! Dire times!

yep, pretty dismal. Some players unavailable eg Payne Hankins N-B but while all for youth, there has to be a balance and surely Cockbain deserved a go. Were Jack Taylor and van Buuren available? Has Tavare been scoring well in the 2s? Lots of questions..

Very poor at Edgbaston but we did come off the back of two decent four day performances at Cheltenham. With the amount of T20 cricket played during the past six weeks I'm wondering if they forgot to put their four day heads back on!
Have completely given up on ever seeing Cockbain playing four day cricket again.
I'm thinking that with an eye on Saturday anyone with a niggle wasn't risked.
Any news on K N-B?
Interesting to see Charlesworth making his debut at 17. With Hankins, Bracey, Hammond and Higgins we appear to have a plethora of young batting talent. Coupled with Dent, Jack Taylor and Roderick all under 28.

Question.....did we really try and select our most competitive available eleven for this match?
For me, it seems pretty clear that all eyes were focused on the coming Saturday quarter final. If we manage to win on Saturday then no doubt some will justify the approach against Warks.
However, I feel angry that we have merely devalued the integrity of the County Championship competition. There are 4 sides in realistic competition for promotion........think supporters of Kent, Sussex and Leics can feel totally dismayed and angry at the way we have approached the Warks match. "Acting like a pub team" is perhaps one of the more polite comments.
Never mind everyone. Just in case you have missed it, the public ballot for international cricket in 2019 is now open. Or of more current pressing interest, a Wedding Planning etc event will take place at the Brightside Ground in early September. Really good to see that our priorities remain in tip top order!!!

It became very clear where our priorities lie after Worrall was never replaced with another overseas player.
Seems very odd that a four day game was sandwiched between the T20's. The first quarter final takes place on Thursday with the current four dayers ending on Wednesday.
Have been browsing other club websites and notice most have comprehensive separate 2nd X1 coverage and some even have 2nd X1 sub-sections covering championship and one day cricket and even academy games!
Hey ho.... at least I have got my tickets for the Wedding Fayre sorted...

Sadly current form ensured Worcs made it to the finals day at Edgbaston. GCCC season has ended; where now? Who to retain; who to say "sorry but goodbye" within the coaching staff and players? (the stats from the last few matches make for sorry reading...)

Logged on to post my own Glos CCC season over thread having put all their eggs in one T20 shaped basket.
My view on goodbyes
Probables Liam Norwell - taking his pasties ooop north Will Tavare - struggled for the 2nds this season Gregory/Currill - from the academy+ programme. Neill, Hankins and Gibbs seem better prospects
Possibles Tom Smith - seems to have fallen out of favour? Graeme Van Buuren - never really pushed on Craig Liddle - depends on choice of overseas player and if/how Norwell is replaced Richard Dawson - after the last couple of seasons is a change in direction required or possible?
Controversially Michael Klinger - been an excellent servant but no longer the force he was
I've suggested the above without knowing the actual contactual positions and there are a few others I could add but believe we would struggle to replace them and the above with better?
Thoughts?

Liam Norwell is already publicly confirmed as going - he has a contract with Warwickshire from the Autumn. However, given how injury prone he has become this may be a blessing for Gloucestershire.
After his performances in the last few T20 games and especially on Saturday I would add David Payne to the list players to let go.
Will Tavare has been struggling to recover from injury so not sure about his future.
*** Don't know what the situation with Tom Smith has been recently - all the club have said is 'he is not available'.
Agree it may well be time for changes at the top of the coaching staff, at the beginning of this season it seemed their were several changes in the lower order coaching/support staff.
The Chairman spelled out how difficult the market for overseas players is following the injury to Dan Worrall earlier in the year, with the growth in cash for play T20 competitions around the world. It seems to be very hard to get 'talented' overseas players to sign up for a county season on the sort of money that the likes of GCCC can offer.
Anyway a few thoughts from me late tonight.
*** Given the nature of the news I felt it best to edit this post and copy the full announcement here:
"GCCC Announcement
28 August 2018
All at Gloucestershire Cricket are deeply saddened by the death of Laura Smith, wife of Tom, who passed away last Thursday after a period of illness.
All of our thoughts are with Tom, their two young daughters and all of their family and friends at this devastating time."
My condolences go out to Tom and all the family members devastated by this news.
