Great shame if the rumours are true; an excellent bowler and our major wicket taker, although injured for considerable time in his playing career here. Do we have an adequate replacement, even in the wings?

Seems to be rather more than just a rumour!
George Dobell (ESPN Cricinfo) is saying that Warwickshire will be announcing the signing of Liam Norwell in the next few days. Yet another player being hoovered up by a Test Match Ground County.
Really sad news and very disappointed to be losing him. Sincerely hope that he has a lot more good fortune and opportunity than Will Gidman, whose move to Nottinghamshire totally ruined his ongoing career.
As things stand, I rather think that we will be going for an overseas strike bowler for 2019.

I haven't seen or heard these rumours, and a move to Warwickshire certainly couldn't be called a move North!
Given Liam's injury problems I would be very surprised if another country took on the risk. Maybe this means that GCCC have withdrawn their 'very generous contract offer' offered to him earlier in the season.
Being harsh, why would we want to keep a bowler on our books who hasn't been able to bowl more than two dozen balls this season and is to play no further part in it.
I feel really sorry for Liam and hope for his sake that he can get back to fitness. Realistically though it may be another Saxelby situation. Great shame.

"Going North" rather tongue in cheek - I regard anywhere North of Tewkesbury - going North and the great 'unmapped'!

Rather struggle to understand that there can be any lingering doubts regarding this move.
George Dobell is a respected cricket correspondent, with numerous close contacts actually within the game. In his article (4th August), he used carefully chosen words regarding player moves or potential moves. The actual article included the following:
"Jack Brooks (Yorks) understood to be in talks with Somerset". (Read elsewhere that Yorks have offered a 2 year contract, whereas Somerset have offered a 3 year deal).
"Yorks are understood to have emerged as favourites to sign Ben Duckett (Northants)".
"Warks are understood to be interested in Ben Raine (Leics)".
"Warks are set to announce the signing of Liam Norwell within days".
Think that it is fairly clear that Liam is leaving. As for the other players mentioned, the potential moves are not certain at this stage.
At present, this leaves us to speculate, without any current knowledge of actual facts (medical advice, terms offered or not offered, desire of the player to bowl in Div 1...assuming that Warks will return which looks highly likely).
If it is a risk, then it appears to be one that Warks are prepared to take. Personally, I feel very disappointed....would much rather take the risk on a potential match winner, rather than have just another squad filler.
Oh well, I guess that the actual details will come out soon.

Strange one - Warwicks didn't want to sign him for this season despite good returns for several years (or maybe they did?!) but now have moved to sign on the back of him being injured all year? Maybe they were able to pay him less as a result, or conscious that Rankin is a year older and Wright on his way at their end....still at least he has gone up rather than down the M5. Lets also hope for his sake he doesn't add to the list of players who were good or VG for Glos but never got going elsewhere (A Gidman, G Hussain and in particular W Gidman as noted). Fuller is bucking the trend a bit with recent performances for Middx

The medics must have convinced Warwickshire that Liam will be able to play again. Surprising given this season's attempts to get him fit again.
I see Liam says he wants to play at a test match venue. Do Warwickshire 2 X1 play any games at Edgebaston?
Sad that he is going but it should free up a considerable sum from the player's salary budget. Let's hope GCCC spend it wisely.
