Like many I guess, when the fixtures came out I was excited at the prospect of once again playing a CC match at the home of cricket. Really struggled to remember the last time that we played a 4 day match at Lord's. A little research took us back to late April in 2010.
Glos (268 and 233) beat Middlesex (203 and 185) by 103 runs.
Our team then was somewhat a blast from the past......Kadeer Ali, Batty, Dent, Mish, Gidman (A), Taylor, Franklin, Snell, Lewis, Hussain and Kirby. (A 19 year old Chis Dent was making his second CC appearance for us). The Middlesex team included Strauss and current players Malan, Robson, Simpson and Murtagh.
Mish scored an exciting run a ball first innings 72 and the "One Season Wonder" took a match winning total of 8 wickets.
Middlesex have somewhat surprisingly lost both of their away fixtures, against Derbyshire and Sussex, so presumably will be really determined to return to winning ways. Murtagh and Stirling are away with Ireland. A now fit Steve Finn is therefore very likely to play and perhaps even Morgan might make a rare 4 day appearance. Would personally love to see James Fuller (who has been playing for their Seconds), but this probably seems unlikely.
Chris Dent is quoted as stating that "It will be a special moment leading my team out at Lord's".
A potentially exciting and nervous few days ahead. C'mon the Glos.

I had booked hotel, but still not 100% well, so had to cancel it. Now I can't go on the Friday. Weather forecast not so good on Saturday (but that might change hopefully) Forecast for others days is fine. So might try and go up for the day, Sat or Sun. If I was fit enough I would be there like a shot, but we will see. But teams pretty even on results so of course goes without saying an important game, and hopefully Lords can inspire the players I am sure it will. So good news and bad news for us on the Middlesex team, could be worse if Ireland weren't playing.

All geared up for a planned away day to Lord's on Saturday. However, the seemingly ever changing weather forecast during the week, rather induced a last minute panic and my trip was brought forward to the first day.
Bright sunny morning on Friday, dry looking pitch (certainly no green top), plus a very short Granstand boundary. Potentially, the best batting conditions likely to be experienced during the 4 days......so we somewhat bizarrely go down the uncontested toss route. (Even the Middlesex fans near to me were really struggling to understand our decision).
Runs flowed at an alarming rate, with frequent boundary balls in the morning. Felt rather sorry for Chris Dent, really hard to set fields to some of this both sides of the wicket bowling. Gubbins looked composed and classy. However, rather spoil this innings in my view by refusing to walk on 99.......umpire took an absolute age to make what appeared to be a totally unnecessary decision.
Still a wonderful, atmospheric venue for a day at the cricket. Sat in the Grandstand close to the action. Walking around later on, the new Warner stand looked impressive both from a design and facilities point of view. At tea, I thought that I would try a pint of lager..."That will be £6.30 Sir". Before I could explode in anger about ridiculous London prices, the barman quickly explained the subsequent £1 refund if I returned my decent quality plastic glass.
Looks like we will end up batting in overcast conditions. First day signs of occasional uneven bounce, which could be rather worrying as the match progresses.

Well perhaps playing out for another draw isn't great. But as I said before this team have guts and don't give up. A really great performance today and of course Bracey an absolute star, to play such a controlled and sensible innings at his age is outstanding. Youngest Gloucestershire player on the 100 Lords honour board is about as good a memory as you can get so congrats to him. Great Innings.

We seem to be getting quite good over recent seasons at first innings collapses and batting to save the match in the second.
With Benny, Higgins and GVB supporting the three main strike bowlers is it time to maybe drop KNB for an out and out batsman??

We are indeed the kings of the 1st innings collapse, followed by a follow-on rearguard. However, this only works when we lose up to a day to the weather. Not guaranteed even though this is the UK. More on the Jessop Tavern View blog recap
