Good luck to the boys today!
Very excited about the season ahead, everything to play for.
It's a shame Norwell wasn't quite ready for our trip to Kent although I see Bracey is in the squad (I thought he would be joining up a little later in the season).
Hopefully we will have Bob Hunt back to keep us entertained on the BBC.

Yes well said Steve, Players I am sure will be doing their best, and for our part we can support and that really does help. Celebrate the good days I am sure we will have our fair share. You can't win them all. But we can enjoy those that we do. Good Luck to the staff, coaches and of course players.

What a great effort from the lads so far. With so much time lost to the weather, it is quite extraordinary that we have reached this stage of the match. Only a total of 122 overs bowled so far at the end of day 3. Great shame that the late afternoon rain prevented the chance of the match being completed today.
Anyway, decent weather forecast for Monday, so let's hope that we can quickly finish this off without too many alarms.
Excellent debut from Ryan Higgins. Very interesting that he was the bowling change option rather than KNB (who didn't bowl in either innings).
P.S You might remember back in October, when we briefly discussed whether Ryan was a spin bowler or medium pacer. We confidently concluded that he was a medium pacer. Recent confusion re-surfaced on reading the article on him on our official website. This article stated (after referring to his batting) that 'he also bowls off spin'. It then continued 'With Jack Taylor suspended from bowling this summer, the newcomer might well find himself bowling more overs than ever before'. Anyway, thanks to the Kent website, I can confidently confirm that Ryan has been bowling medium pace at Canterbury. (So ignore Cricinfo and their ball by ball scores, which continues to refer to him as right arm off break, when he is bowling).

Would be a great start. 47 runs and 9 wickets. Only Middlesex have a win. Warwicks/Sussex looks like a draw. This is an unbelievable chance to be right up there after 1 game. Counting no chickens, batsman will be nervous, bowlers will be fresh and ready to give it some, but really we must do this from here.

They made it by 5 wickets, what a great start to the season.

Massive YES . Well done the Glos, what a great start to the season (most unusual for us). Must confess that after the three quick wickets this morning, it was rather a period of "squeaky bum time". Some positive cricket from Benny was just what was required. (Around the country it seems to have been rather a nightmare for batters, with a regular clatter of wickets in this round of matches). Really hope that we can build on this.

Just read a couple of interesting facts on Cricinfo;
First Glos opening game of the season away victory since 1996 and first team to win a championship match scoring less than 110 in both innings since 1982.

Steve.....thanks for posting the stats. Fascinating stuff from Cricinfo.
Previously, we always seem to start the season really poorly (often regularly well beaten), but first away win since 1996 is absolutely staggering.
As to the 1982 reference, Cricinfo are technically correct. However, a massive BUT from me! Looking at the actual article, they refer back to a match in June 1982 when we played Hants. I have looked up the relevant scorecard on Cricket Archive. This was a weather affected 3 day CC match and was eventually started and played under the one innings rules which existed at that time. Hants were bowled out for 99 and we won by 4 wickets. So actually a pretty poor comparison to the events at Canterbury.
I wonder how far we really have to go back for a match where all 4 innings took place and the winning side didn't score above 110 in either innings?

There is a guy on Twitter who works for Cricinfo who comes up with all sorts of stats that you wonder how on earth did he find that out. Obviously a database that is pretty flexible, but he tweets them about 30 seconds after they have happened. At the moment he is mostly doing IPL stuff but they are stat magicians for sure. This chap is @seervibharath so hence lots of Indian stuff but does get involved in England games as well.

I did mention on another thread that it was likely that we would field a team for the first match with probably the lowest average age that I could remember.
Apparently, Michael Atherton had an interesting article in the Times yesterday, focusing on the theme that young Indian cricketers are ahead of their peers in England. The article listed the average age of the 10 sides that started the first round of Championship matches. Glos had the youngest team at 26.07 and Hants the oldest at 30.38. (The average age of Kent was 28.43).
P.S Was there any logical reason why all 18 counties didn't have fixtures for the first round of matches?

The only reason is there are more "cricketing weeks" than all the teams need. So all teams sit out a couple of weeks (not really weeks but you know what I mean) some play touring sides that causes a problem, and some just have a week off, so eventually it all works out. But there are some bizarre runs. For instance Yorkshire play two games at home and then play SIX away, so after this week, they don't play at Headingley in the CC until 29th August!! We rock the boat a little bit as we are the only side to have two fixtures in July, in Cheltenham of course. So to get that, we have to sit out a week somewhere and in turn another team has to as well, as there are even numbers now. Never used to be and it was a nightmare. I am a bit of fixture freak, and also do a lot of telegraph fantasy cricket and have a fixture spreadsheet which I share to other fantasy players. I also have IPL, and Premier League football TV games, World Cup F1 and few other things on it. It can be found here (It is a google spreadsheet but should open to anyone) docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10pONoumITK-zMiQD-n4JzKyivdIELyjE8wOJe-k7LNQ/edit#gid=934557253
