Seems a good choice for both four day and fifty over.
Not quite sure what happened with Roderick last season but certainly Dents appointment will be a vast an improvement on Mustards efforts.

Very pleased for Chris Dent and sincerely hope he makes an unqualified success of his tenure at the helm.

Agree with the previous comments. Pleased to see Chris Dent being given this opportunity. However, can be a very tiring and stressful role, so very much hope that the "curse of the captaincy" does not impact on his batting form. We desperately need him to score heavily this coming season. I was somehow expecting Mustard to continue as captain and on this basis I was fairly confident that he would be in our starting eleven. Really not so sure now. Never convinced with some of the captaincy decisions last year. Remember against Sussex at Hove, Mustard was somehow conned into agreeing to us chasing a contrived target of 351 off 75 overs on the final day. Absolute madness (even the Sussex supporters could not quite believe it and thought that we were totally barmy).

Ha, a mere 351! With our fragile batting on a last day pitch he set us a run chase of 380 against Derbyshire!!

Please don't remind me of the Derbyshire fiasco. (Bet that their captain is still grinning away at the total stupidity of our agreement to this run chase). Thought that this was subsequently explained away as attempting to provide "meaningful / entertaining cricket on the last day of the season" (rather than a meandering non-event). Now I applaud positive cricket. However, the intention in arranging a contrived decent finish was honourable but the actual execution was insulting. There is no real excitement in facing mission impossible.......381 off 80 overs on the final day was ludicrous. Did anyone have to consult the relevant stats or record books to seriously believe otherwise. Seem to recall that afterwards Richard Dawson commented something to the effect that this was always going to be a difficult task when facing a "world class leg spinner" (Imran Tahir).

Well, declarations not withstanding, Chris Dent has a major problem. The usual GCCC start to the season has Payne out for some considerable time and Norwell, arguably our best bowler by a country mile, injured as well [hopefully short time]. What is it about the coaches and conditioning team that puts our players at risk so early? Lost for words..... perhaps a read of Freddie Truman's biography might help - beer & sandwiches before and after a game??

Dent is my favourite player however I cant say his comments on being offered the captaincy inspired much confidence. I hope he proves me wrong.
