GCCC bowling may suffice but we're not going to win too many. Batting appears to need a complete overhaul. Why not proven batters eg Cockbain not selected? Strange selection decisions.....

Pretty sure your analysis of inept batting is the correct one. Kent are a good side however and bowled pretty well. Cockbain should be in the side- if he's good enough to play white ball and do well then surely he can't be worse than the other batsmen. See our (rather optimistic) season predictions for more on this. It's still early doors though and we were also hammered in the first game last season. Battle of the bottom sides starting on Good Friday against Leics. More on the blog

Totally agree about Cockbain He was given a decent run some years back but not for a good while now. Kent probably in the two top sides in division two.

Terribly disappointing, and however well Kent bowled, scoring just over 200 in two innings isn't acceptable.
Only thing I'd disagree with is that I might go against the grain on the Cockbain front - as much as I love him as a white ball bat, he's continually failed to nail down a red ball spot, and is unfortunately no more likely to score runs than the top six who played. Bancroft as the overseas will always play (and needs to do better), with Dent, Mustard & Van Burren realistically automatic picks. Hankins is clearly seen as one we want to kick on, so the only player who Cockbain would have come in for would have been Tavare - and when Roderick is fit next week this may become irrelevant. The only question it does bring up is whether we need to go in with an extra batsman (but then risk being a bowler light). Realistically, this is the best we've got and we still look a side far more geared up for white ball cricket - even more so with the loss of Klinger and Marshall.

'The Jessop Tavern' always a good read and sharp observations! Have to slightly disagree with jonb though - I would have included Cockbain vs Leics. I hope that our "middle order" [ basically from 1 to 6 [Dent excluded!] aren't going to have endless 'opportunities' to cement their place. With Dawson lamenting a shortened season all the more reason to field one's best XI. Admittedly that is a tricky one currently.
