I don't think many Glos supporters would have thought it possible that we would be going into the final round of Championship fixtures with a chance of promotion. We may be outsiders as even if we do beat Northants, Surrey would stop us by beating Derbyshire, but taking everything into account the 4 day performances this season have been a pleasant surprise to me whatever happens from here. To be honest I'm not sure if promotion would be a good thing with a young side and seemingly not much money to invest in the squad, but I still hope it happens! Any thoughts?

With the loss last season of four or our five top bowlers - Hussain (67 championship wickets), Franklin (46), Kirby and Ireland - I for one never thought we would be in contention for promotion right up to the last match. Whether or not we do achieve promotion I would certainly like to see an overseas bowler for next season for without Lewis I feel it might be expecting just too much of our young but highly promising bowling attack.

Well, any outide chance of promotion has just been blown away; mainly due to our fragile batting line-up. So onward to next season - we need a good skipper/batsman; a top order batsman and a fast/strike bowler. As said before, retain C Taylor; I would sadly let Hamish go. The squad has overall exceeded expectations ; but most will need to progress quicker next year. Would also be interested to hear what thoughts are out there regarding the "investment bond" currently being touted.

The squad may have exceeded expectations but as many of them are young I would hope the experience will mean they will be able to cope even better with another year in Div 2. Had we been promoted it may well have been a step up too soon for such a young squad. Regarding Hamish, he came to us in such good form from his season in NZ that he opened the batting which was probably a mistake. Then after an injury he never regained his early form but he has proved in the past what he can do. As the squad is low on numbers there doesn't seem much point not offering him a contract unless we have a better replacement lined up, which seems very unlikely. I would also like to see an experienced bowler to back up our youngsters, but that would probably only be one released by another county. I think spin bowling is more of a problem area at the moment. I haven't heard about the 'investment bond' but am not sure I like the sound of it! Can you expand?

Yes we looked like a reasonable team towards the end of the season and if we can add a bowler we can have a good crack again next year. We'll miss Lewy more than perhaps any other player that's left in the last few seasons though.
No reason to keep Marshall is there? He had a great first season but his record has got worse and worse and now, for the money he earns, he isn't worth it. I'd rather have a kid produce his record.

I quite agree Snowy. There were a number of occasions towards the end of the season when Marshall was prefered to Cockbain which considering the form each was in I think was a mistake. Lots of positives however to take forward to next year and congratulations to Will Gidman on his 'Player of the Year' award. It was a truly remarkable season for him. A genuine all rounder gives such balance to a team.
